Sound on Rembrandt
Posted August 1, 2006
On the 400th Year Commemoration of Rembrandt's birth, SSRC will release Rendering Rembrandt van Rign by Ray Buttigieg, a series of 14 atmospheric sound cycles for 14 paintings. "The inspiration behind this project, aside from the awesomeness and genius of the paintings was the parallel between the dark element between the visuals and the sounds. The dark manner and the use of chiaroscuro in the painting method Rembrandt used and the moodiness of light and dark, happy and sad, in the music style that I like to employ," Ray said. Tentative titles are "The Syndics of the Clothmakers Guild," "The Sacrifice of Abraham," "The Blinding of Samson," "Samson And Delilah," "Self Portrait 1660," "Portrait of Maria Trip," "Night Watch," "Joseph Accused by Potiphar's Wife," "Jan Six," "Diana Bathing With The Stories Of Actaeon And Callisto," "Danae," "Balaam's Ass," "Artemis," and "Agatha Bas."

Great Siege Audio Demo Sketches up
Posted June 2, 2006
Eight audio demo sketches are up under the heading, Great Siege of Malta A.D. 1565 in the Ray Buttigieg Artist section.. As early as 1970 Ray Buttigieg wanted to do a rock opera someday based on the great siege, then in the late ‘70’s early ‘80s Pathe’ Pictures were interested in doing the epic siege into a big budget motion picture for that time. These 8 demo sketches were started and ended with these two ideas respectively. The rock opera was never pursued by Ray and the motion picture was never made by Pathe’ Pictures due to lack of funds, but in Ray’s mind it was never forgotten; after all it is a big part of his Maltese heritage.
On the 440th anniversary of one of history’s great sieges, and 35 years after these first ideas Ray Buttigieg started working on two major works based on the Great Siege of 1565. One work is a long version epic poem for an interactive book and the other a symphonic poem for orchestra in the classical mode simultaneously; this will be part of the Symphonic Poem series. Here is the list of sketches.
- Sketch 01. All Forts and Watchtowers
- Sketch 02. Post of Castile
- Sketch 03. Faithful onto Death (The Cross and the Crescent)
- Sketch 04. Slopes of Mount Sciberras
- Sketch 05. Gallows Point (The Maltese Divers)
- Sketch 06. September 8, 1565/The Feast of St Mary
- Sketch 07. Corradino Heights
- Sketch 08. Dragut Rais last Breath
